【摘要】:Theuniaxialcompressiontest(seeTestMethodD7012)isusedtodeterminecompressivestrengthofrockspecimens.However,itisatime-consumingandexpensivetestthatrequiressignificantspecimenpreparationandtheresultsmaynotbeavailableforalongtimeafterthesamplesarecollected.Whenextensivetestingand/ortimelyinformationisrequiredforpreliminaryandreconnaissanceinformation,alternativetestssuchasthepointloadtestcanbeusedtoreducethetimeandcostofcompressivestrengthtests,whenusedinthefield.Suchdatacanbeusedtomaketimelyandmoreinformeddecisionsduringtheexplorationphasesandmoreefficientandcosteffectiveselectionofsamplesformorepreciseandexpensivelaboratorytests.Thepointloadstrengthtestisusedasanindextestforstrengthclassificationofrockmaterials.Thetestresultsshouldnotbeusedfordesignoranalyticalpurposes.Thistestmethodisperformedtodeterminethepointloadstrengthindexofrockspecimensand,ifrequired,thepointloadstrengthanisotropyindex.Rockspecimensintheformofeithercore(thediametralandaxialtests),cutblocks(theblocktest),orirregularlumps(theirregularlumptest)aretestedbyapplicationofconcentratedloadthroughapairoftruncated,conicalplatens.Littleornospecimenpreparationisrequiredandcanthereforebetestedshortlyafterbeingobtainedandanyinfluenceofmoistureconditiononthetestdataminimized.However,theresultscanbehighlyinfluencedbyhowthespecimenistreatedfromthetimeitisobtaineduntilthetimeitistested.Therefore,itmaybenecessarytohandlespecimensinaccordancewithPracticeD5079andtodocumentmoistureconditionsinsomemannerinthedatacollection.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentuponthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetestingandsampling.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstheguidelines,requirements,andproceduresfordeterminingthepointloadstrengthindexofrock.Thisisanindextestandisintendedtobeusedtoclassifyrockstrength.1.2Specimensintheformofrockcores,blocks,orirregularlumpswithatestdiameterfrom30to85mmcanbetestedbythistestmethod.1.3Thistestmethodcanbeperformedineitherthefieldorlaboratory.Thetestistypicallyusedinthefieldbecausethetestingmachineisportable,littleorminimalspecimenpreparationisrequired,andspecimenscanbetestedwithinashorttimeframeofbeingcollected.1.4Thistestmethodappliestomediumstrengthrock(compressivestrengthover15MPa(2200psi)).1.5Thistestmethoddoesnotcoverwhichtypeofspecimenshouldbetestedorwhetheranisotropicfactorsshouldbeconsidered.Thespecificsofthepointloadtestprogramneedtobedevelopedpriortotestingandpossiblyevenbeforesampling.Suchspecificswouldbedependentontheintendeduseofthedata,aswellaspossiblebudgetaryconstraintsandpossibleotherfactors,whichareoutsidethescopeofthistestmethod.1.6AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026.1.7Themethoduse......
