【摘要】:Thereareseveralmajorcausesofautomotivelubricant-relatedsealfailures.Thistestmethodaddressesonlythosefailurescausedbyexcessiveelastomerhardening,elongationloss,andvolumeswellandattemptstodeterminethelikelihoodthatanoilmightcauseprematuresealingsystemfailuresinfielduse.Thistestmethodmaybeusedasarequirementofaperformancespecification,suchasSpecificationD5760andJ2360.Anothermajorcauseofsealfailureistheformationofcarbon,varnish,andsludge-likedepositsontheseallip.Thedeposit-formingcharacteristicsofautomotivegearoilsareevaluatedinTestMethodD5704.Thatprocedureisintendedinparttoevaluatethepotentialforoilstocauseprematuresealfailureinfieldservice.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofthecompatibilityofautomotivegearoilswithspecificnitrile,polyacrylate,andfluoroelastomeroilsealmaterials.1.2UsersofthistestmethodshouldobtainTestMethodsD412,D471,andD2240andbecomefamiliarwiththeirusebeforeproceedingwiththistestmethod.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
